Paper Shredder Parts
Which Parts Need To Be Replaced Often?

You can find paper shredder parts at a variety of sites online and offline office equipment stores.

If you bought a home shredder from a department store chain, they are not going to keep any parts in stock should you need to repair your paper shredder.

The route to go if that is the case would be to order parts from the manufacturer of your machine.

There are also a number of paper shredder parts suppliers that have parts for different brands.

The major cause of malfunctioning shredders is not oiling on a regular basis. If you do not make sure the machine is oiled, dust and paper particles will build up and your shredder will not shred.

These particles can glue themselves together and the oil keeps it softened so that the cutting head can push them out. One of the basic rules to remember is the smaller it shreds the more oil it will need.

So before you tear it apart and start ordering paper shredder parts, check to see if this is the problem.

If you have a paper shredder that cuts large strips it will probably last through more cuttings than a smaller strip cutter.

Some machines do not handle staples or paper clips very well should they be fed into the machine along with the papers you are shredding.

The smaller strip cutters are especially bad about this. The cutters can become damaged on these paper shredders after one staple passing through. Unless the documents you shred are quite confidential a larger cut shredder will work best.

Circuit boards that control the shredder functions such as the forward motion of carrying the paper through are typical paper shredder parts that break often.

Should your machine run in reverse the most likely culprit is the on/off/reverse switch. The circuit board could also have gone bad.

The photo eye which is in the middle of the chute is another fragile paper shredder part. It can become clogged with paper dust and even oil which can cause your shredder to run continuously.

Try cleaning this with a non-abrasive item such as a cotton swab. If this does not help, more than likely you will have to replace the photo eye assembly or circuit board.

Always remember to unplug your paper shredder before cleaning it or attempting a paper shredder parts replacement.
